Debter Hereford Herd History
Our registered herd was started in 1948 with the purchase of two Hereford Heifers as a 4H project for Glynn. Over the years, the herd increased and in 1970, we purchased our first Line Ones from Montana. In 1979, we partnered with 3 other breeders to purchase the 243 Cooper Cow. This cow through her sons and daughters helped our bred a lot and moved our breeding program forward. 243 was our first donor cow. Around 1988, we increased our herd size with the purchase of the Cobbler Mtn. herd in Virginia. Our DH Lerch 363 bull was a strong influence in that top herd.
Partnerships on Herd Bulls have allowed us to purchase some of the top Line One
bulls. Some of those were CL 1 Domino 590 that produced over 2500 head of progeny; CL 1 Domino 5131E with 1164 head of progeny; HH Advance 8050U, one of the top bulls we’ve used; and more recently, HH Advance 3203A, HH Advance 4105B, & HH Advance 0044H.
The strength of our breeding program is dependent on our cowherd. Some of the
bulls we have produced have had a lasting influence here. The DH Advance 736 bull is one of our best efforts. He still has a top set of daughters here. He was used naturally at 12 years of age. DH Domino 717 has top daughters and has another top set of sons selling in this sale.
We have a good solid set of cows that are performance bred with nice udders. The
uniformity and good disposition that we see in the Line One Cattle makes our job a lot easier.
